Tasmanian standout Jock Goodyer is a surprise entry into the 2024 Australian Pro Sprintcar Championship, presented by Dirt X Ind, for this weekend’s event at the Avalon Raceway. Jock will contest the championship for the first time with his main goal being to join Robbie Farr and Jamie Veal as Australian Champions in both Sprintcar classes. Goodyer will pilot one of the immaculately presented race cars owned by Victorian Domain Ramsay.
After finishing third in the 2024 410ci Australian Championship at the Premier Speedway earlier in the year Jock will also attempt to duplicate what Western Australian Callum Williamson achieved last season, after he finished on the podium at both Title events in the same season.
Goodyer isn’t the only driver who can achieve this during the 2024 season as Jamie Veal, who was second at Warrnambool, can also join Williamson in the record books if he too can finish on the podium at Avalon.
Along with Queensland’s Lachlan McHugh, Goodyer has been the inform driver in the country this season, including three wins at the Chariots of Thunder Series in Darwin, a win at Murray Bridge, SRA Series victories, a feature win in a rare start at his home track at Latrobe in Tasmania, the overall Speedweek Championship and an extremely successful trip to Western Australia which included claiming the Australian Sprintcar Nationals and the Krikke Boys Shootout.
“Initially Lockie (McHugh) was going to drive the drive but once he indicated he was going to unavailable he suggested to Domain to give me a call. It all came about pretty quickly but I must thank Domain for the opportunity. I was going to have a run at Warrnambool last month but as a team we got a bit busy putting a new car together, so it didn’t work out. We will just go to Avalon and have a bit of fun and see how we go” added Jock.
So, can Jock’s stunning form in his 410ci Sprintcar transfer into a Pro Sprintcar? It won’t be long until we can find out.
The 2024 Australian Pro Sprintcar Championship, presented by Dirt X Ind, will be held at the Avalon Raceway in Geelong with the event beginning on Friday April 12 before the Championship finale on Saturday night (April 13).
