Aprile Breaks Podium Drought

A four-season podium drought was broken by Brent Aprile last Saturday night at Brisbane’s Archerfield Speedway, where he scored a second-place finish in the second East Coast Logistics Sprintcar Series round.

In only his second outing for the 2019-20 season, Aprile, driving his Qld # 42 Sprint Shack / Aprile Industries supported GF1 car, enjoyed a great run that saw him battle at the front of the field for the entire 30-lap distance and in the end followed winner and current Australian Champion Andrew Scheuerle across the finish line.

“I had a really good run throughout the feature race on the weekend with plenty of passing going on and it great to get back onto the podium,” expressed the 27-year-old racer from Mackay in Queensland, who had started the feature race from position four after strong performances earlier in the night, which saw him topped the time sheets in qualifying.

“Heading into this season the team and I decided to run our later model GF1 car, and it’s definitely starting to pay off, as in our first two outings this season we have been in podium contention, so I couldn’t be happier with our start to the season.”

Aprile’s season opener, which was late last month in the opening East Coast Logistics Series round at Archerfield Speedway, saw him robbed of a podium finish after suffering a flat tyre while in third place in the closing stages and dropping back down the order to finish in a disappointing 11th place.

Regarding the rest of Aprile’s 2019-20 season, he has laid out a domestic schedule based around mainly Archerfield Speedway.

“The plan for the team and I this season is to be based around Archerfield Speedway, as there is plenty of racing on offer, including World Series round,” he explained.

“We would like to do a bit of interstate racing at places like Valvoline Raceway in Sydney, but that is all going to depend on how we are going locally and of course how our we are going budget wise.”

The next appearance for Aprile and his team will be at Archerfield Speedway for the third East Coast Logistics Sprintcar Series round on the Saturday night of November 16.
