HOPPING SHOOTOUT TO FARR IN A THRILLER
Author : SANSW Media

Robbie Farr is a repeat winner of the Sid Hopping Shootout with an impressive win on Saturday night at Valvoline Raceway and in the process, has hit the early lead in the race for the Ultimate Sprintcar Championship.

Farr, who started on the second row of the A-Main had to chase down race leader Ben Atkinson, to nab his 48th career victory at Valvoline Raceway. Second to the line was Atkinson who had a solid run to score his first podium in almost two years while the defending USC NSW Champion Sam Walsh came home in third.

Atkinson took full advantage of a front row start, after claiming victory in the Pole Shuffle and set about making a big impression in the race that honours the man who built Parramatta City Raceway - Sid Hopping.

The race wasn’t even one lap old when Peter O’Neill flipped in turns three and four, thankfully O’Neill emerged unhurt, although he was out of the full race restart. Once the race began, Atkinson hit the lead with Farr in close pursuit followed by Walsh.

On lap three, Daniel Cassidy sustained front end damage and came to a stop on the back straight and at the ensuing restart, Farr immediately hit the lead and set about opening a handy advantage while Walsh snuck past Atkinson for second.

Walsh, who was getting closer to Farr lap after lap challenged a number of times for the lead and it certainly was an entertaining battle for the lead of the race. Walsh briefly hit the lead right on half-race distance before Farr struck back right away just prior to the caution lights coming on for Michael Stewart who had spun on the back straight.

The restart with 14 laps to go was Farr, Walsh, Atkinson, Jordyn Brazier, Matt Dumesny and Jackson Delamont. Atkinson got underneath Walsh at the restart and set out to get Farr and with the lapped traffic playing a part, it was an entertaining final 10 laps with the top three battling hard.

At the fall of the chequers, it was Farr from Atkinson, Walsh, Brazier, Mat Dumesny, Jessie Attard, Delamont, Marcus Dumesny who was the A-Main hard charger, Troy Little while Grant Tunks rounded out the top-10.

Eleventh home was Alex Orr followed by Matt Geering, Daniel Sayre, Jeremy Cross, Max Dumesny, Michael Saller, Michael Stewart, Luke Stirton, Guy Stanshall, Luke Geering and Mark Attard was the final finisher. Non-Finishers were James Thompson, Cassidy and O’Neill.

Earlier in the night, in qualifying it was Stirton, Sayre, Thompson and Matt Dumesny who set quick time in their respective groups with Atkinson, Sayre, Thompson and Farr scoring heat race wins. The B-Main went to Saller from Max Dumesny, Stewart and Stanshall.

The next event for the Sprintcar Association of NSW will be Saturday night, November 16 with the return of the Hi-Tec Oils Ultimate Speedway Challenge at Valvoline Raceway.
