Easter Means Action at Archerfield
Author : Archerfield Speedway

Forget Easter eggs, hot cross buns and family get-togethers, the best way to spend the Easter weekend is watching a stellar field of thundering Sprintcars unleashed on Ausdeck Patios Archerfield Speedway. Yep, Sprintcars are back in action on Saturday night (April 20) to contest round two of the Easter Triple Challenge, with 40 local and interstate aces set to do battle on Queenslands premier speedway oval. In fact, whilst many of the nominated Sprintcar teams will compete at Toowoomba on Friday evening and again on Sunday night, it is no surprise that the Archerfield round has secured the largest entry list for the weekend. On a massive night that has attracted more 120 competitor nominations, the program will also feature Midgets, the Queensland Modlite Championship and a huge field of Wingless Sprints.

In addition to continuing his season-long battle with local rivals in the form of Luke Oldfield, Lachlan McHugh, Peter Lack and Bryan Mann, this event will see Australian Sprintcar champion Andrew Scheuerle face off against World Series champion Steven Lines from South Australia, who is making his first Archerfield appearance since clinching the WSS crown for his Brisbane-based team owner Dave Horrell. Scheuerle will relish the opportunity to take on Lines, as well as former national titleholder Robbie Farr and a collection of interstate invaders trekking north to launch a raid on the results. Scheuerle should have few concerns about the visitors given that he upstaged more than 50 of them last weekend in Sydney, while both McHugh and Oldfield possess a never-say-die attitude and will have every confidence in their capacity to emerge victorious. Farr and Mann are also feature winners this season and when you add the likes of Allan Woods, Kevin Titman, Brent Kratzmann, Ben Hilder and teenager Randy Morgan, Queensland is well served to thwart any plans the southerners might have of stealing the trophies.

Of the others making the trip from interstate, Michael Saller presents as the man most likely to make an impact given his frequent sojourns to Archerfield that have brought improved results, both here and at home, including a maiden feature race win. Joining Saller in representing New South Wales in enemy territory will be Jessie Attard, Jackson Delamont, Brendan Scorgie, Daniel Cassidy Chris McInerney, Daniel Sayre and Jai Stephenson, the hard charging former national Dirt Modified champion who will be making his Sprintcar debut.

Like their V8 brethren, Wingless Sprints will be contesting three nights of racing over the Easter weekend and they have secured in excess of 35 entries. Archerfield regulars such as Dan Moes, Brant Chandler, Paul Robinson and Andrew Robinson will face off against drivers from throughout Queensland, along with more than a dozen journeying from all corners of New South Wales. Fresh from a runner-up result in his state championship final two weekends ago, Kyle Mock heads the interstate challenge and will be joined by the likes of fellow Sydneysiders in Jason Bates, Zac Pacchiarotta and Luke Sayre, along with a strong Lismore contingent that includes Dave Eggins, Mason Cattell, Michael Butcher and Jacob Jolley.

The level of competition in the chase for the Polar Ice Midget Track Championship has intensified in recent rounds with Brock Dean emerging as a dominant figure after a late start to the season. The previous round saw Dean secure his second feature win for the season and this weekend he will face his biggest test yet when he takes on three former national titleholders in Adam Clarke, Kaidon Brown and Nathan Smee. Both Clarke and Smee have impressive records of success at Archerfield, while Brown brings some very strong form into the event, having collected feature race wins in Sydney and South Australia in recent weeks. With the likes of proven feature race winners such as Darren Vine and Scott Farmer also in the mix, along with former Sprintcar ace Callum Walker and a bunch of series regulars who have emerged as genuine contenders in recent outings, there seems little doubt this will be the most hotly contested round thus far.

Whilst defending champion Klinton Hancey and former titleholder Terry Leerentveld are expected to again feature at the front of the field in the Queensland Modlite Championship, they will face their toughest test yet given the number of drivers whose form throughout the season has resulted in feature race successes that must see them regarded as potential title winners. In fact, such has been the level of competition and the dispersal of race wins so far this season, it may well be Sam Gollschewsky, Chris Were, Kyle Honour, Nathan Politch, Dan Lewis, Will Butler or one of several others from amongst the 28-car field who will find themselves joining a very elite group at the completion of the championship finale.
