Walsh’s Impressive Season
Author : Redline Media

The 2017-18 season has without a doubt been the best one yet for Carly Walsh, who has continued to show great progress in her Wingless Sprints career, recently wrapping up the overall Ladies of the Dirt Series.

A regular front-running contender throughout the duration of the season, Walsh’s consistency saw her amass a number of notable highlights, the most impressive of which had to be claiming the victory in each of the four Ladies of the Dirt Series rounds to dominate the point standings and clinch the overall champion status.

In addition to her commanding performance in this season’s competition for ladies, Walsh, who had her pop (Dennis) pass away late last year and she decided to dedicate this season to his memory, also impressed on a national scale in open competition, becoming the highest-placed female in the Australian Championship for the second consecutive season.

Travelling to one of Australia’s most prominent speedway tracks – Sydney’s Valvoline Raceway – back in February to join the other 95 odd drivers contesting the Australian Championship, the 19-year-old racer from Cobden in the south-west of Victoria certainly held her own, winning two of her four heat races and narrowly missing out on a transfer spot into the feature race, coming home seventh in the B main.

This pleasing performance was coupled with a pair of podium results in open competition, the first of which was a third-place finish in the Stonypoint 5000 and the second a runner-up result in a recent feature race, both of which took place at Darlington’s Mid-Western Speedway.

“We’ve had a few issues here and there, but overall it’s been a really great season for us,” commented Walsh, who was forced to change to the Vic # 4 Gibbtrans / Indy Race Parts Australia supported KPC car following a large crash during the Victorian Title earlier in the season which destroyed her existing Maxim car.

“Being able to clean sweep the Ladies of the Dirt Series is a huge achievement and shows that I’m continuing to improve when it comes to my consistency, which makes me excited for future seasons. I have to say a huge thanks to mum and dad (Tania and Mark) for everything they do for me and my racing, along with my sponsors and the rest of my supporters.”

Challenging herself even further at the beginning of the 2017-18 season, the third-generation racer made the big step up into 410 Sprintcars, contesting four race meetings aboard her Vic # 4 Maxim car.

Planning to continue her 410 Sprintcar venture next season, Walsh will be participating in each of the Eureka Garages & Sheds Series rounds, along with the most coveted event on the Sprintcar calendar: Grand Annual Classic at Warrnambool’s Premier Speedway, while also contesting the Australian and Victorian Wingless Sprint Titles, and other blue-ribbon Wingless Sprint events.

Walsh would like to thank the following sponsors for their continued support throughout the 2017-18 season: Gibbtrans, Indy Race Parts Australia, KC Errey and Co, Kylie Divall Photography, Angel Wings Photography, Hosey Earthworks, NOS Racing Parts, The Tyre Factory – Warrnambool, Salt Electrical, LPS Logical Property Service, and Hoskin Steering Gear.

Special thanks go to her mum and dad (Tania and Mark), her younger brother Blake, her boyfriend Chris, and the rest of her family and friends for their continued support.
