Having experienced consistent improvement throughout the 2017-18 season, Brendan Scorgie at Sydney’s Valvoline Raceway claimed his best result yet following a solid performance in last Saturday night’s final Ultimate Sprintcar Championship NSW round.

Completing what was his third 410 Sprintcar season, Scorgie has enjoyed a pleasing season, despite encountering some varied mechanical issues, and has significantly improved his consistency, as evident in his last eight race meetings, where he managed to qualify into the feature race.

Travelling to Sydney’s Valvoline Raceway from his hometown of Yass in the Southern Tablelands region of NSW, Scorgie was hoping to cap off his season in as positive fashion aboard his NS # 57 Yass Valley Tyre Service / EFI Spares supported Triple X car and that’s exactly what he did.

Recording the third-fastest time in qualifying Flight 1, Scorgie continued to make his presence felt during his heat race, coming away with a comfortable win. Third in points heading into his first ever pole shuffle attempt, Scorgie was against Danny Reidy for a second-row start in the feature race; however, due to not visiting the scales following the pole shuffle where he was defeated by Reidy after Scorgie’s engine stumbled off the start, he was penalised and consequently forced to start from position eight.

Making his way into fifth briefly at the drop of the green flag before dropping back to sixth, Scorgie spent the majority of the 30-lap distance battling against some formidable competition for a top-five finish, but had not yet been able to make a move stick.

Taking a risk on the final restart of the race, Scorgie decided to try the high line to drive around Reidy and James Thompson for fourth, but after getting slightly caught up on the cushion of the track, he was unable to execute the move, eventually slipping back to eighth place where he remained through to the fall of the chequered flag.

For Scorgie, this was his best overall result for the 2017-18 season, which saw him finish 16th in the final USC NSW point standings.

“I took a risk in the feature race which didn’t quite pay off, but the pace was definitely there and that a top-five finish was possible if I could pull it off, so overall I’m really pleased with the whole night,” enthused the 31-year-old racer.

“It’s been a fairly strong season for us, which is in no small part due to all of the work put in by my crew chief Dwayne Lawrence and the rest of the team. Our aim for this season was to consistently qualify for feature races, so to have done that in our last eight race meetings is really something to be proud of.

“Dwayne and I have a great relationship both at the track and away from it, which has made working with each other very beneficial, as evident in our results. I’m looking forward to seeing what next season delivers.”

Other pleasing season results for Scorgie include a top-10 finish in the NSW Title at Valvoline Raceway over the Christmas-New Year period and qualifying for every feature race during the recent three-round Queensland Easter Trail, which was highlighted by a seventh-place finish in the third and final round at Lismore Speedway (NSW).

During the off season, Scorgie will focus on freshening up his car and engine package as he attempts to further develop as a driver during the 2018-19 season.

In other news, Scorgie is set to make his Speedcar debut on the Saturday night of April 28 at Valvoline Raceway for the Sydney City 50 Lap Classic. He will be steering the NSW # 47 Chev Gaerte powered Stealth car owned by Adam Lawson.
