MANDERS IS WESTERN AUSTRALIAN #2
Author : Ken Brown

A week after winning the W.A. 360 Sprintcar Championship, Kaiden Manders has finished a creditable second in the state Open (410 cu.in.) title at the Perth Motorplex.
By far the strongest field of the season was on hand for the title decider, with Manders clocking the third fastest Time Trial (14.092 seconds) in the 27 car field.
He started on the front row in his first heat and crossed the line in second spot.
Manders came out of position eight in his next outing and powered home to finish second.
These fine results meant he would come out of position 2 in the 30-lap WA Championship final.
Manders went straight into the lead, after fending off a challenge, to set the pace.
The talented 20-year-old maintained his advantage until lap 23 when Victorian Jamie Veal took over the lead.
Manders held on to finish in second place.
It was a fine showing in his first full season of 410 Sprintcar competition.
Afterwards Manders had this to say:-

"It was another really solid night for us as a team, the guys did an awesome job with the car in trying conditions. We timed really well which started the ball rolling for us and then had a great second heat from the back which put us off the front row. I had a great tussle with the 41 car for the first half of the feature but then unfortunately I ran out of puff towards the end and cooked the brakes which let Veal pass with a few laps to go. Overall really happy with the car speed and can’t thank all our supporters enough for their help throughout the night!"

Next Manders will head over east to run several of the international shows in Brisbane, starting on Boxing Day.
