Ben Atkinson battles it out with the opposition at the Northline Speedway in Darwin

Atkinson Sixth in Darwin
Author : Ken Brown

The final weekend of the Chariots of Thunder Series at Darwin's Northline Speedway saw the #41 JAK Civil/Cowara Motorsports Team driver Ben Atkinson claim sixth position overall.
The first heat race on Friday night saw Atkinson lead for five laps before unfortunately running over a muffler on the track and cutting his right front tyre.
Next time out he started ninth and finished seventh.
This meant he went into the B Main - gaining a spot to be eighth - but unfortunately missed qualifying for the main event.
Atkinson started the Saturday action by gaining two spots in his opening 10-lap heat.
The next heat race saw him lead flag to flag for a great win.
He started from the front row in the 15-lap B Main and again was never headed.
In the 30-lap A Main - the final of the NT Championship - Atkinson was deep in the pack in position 16.
He drove a heady race, moving forward through the event to cross the line in sixth - and be awarded the "Hard Charger" trophy.
Despite some setbacks over the Chariots of Thunder Series, Atkinson ended up sixth in the final pointscore - in a strong 31 car field.
Steve Duggan, owner of the #41 JAK Civil/Cowara Motorsports Team, has announced that Atkinson will have one more run with the team.
On their way home they will contest the "Dance in the Desert" event on Thursday night (August 31) at the Arunga Park Speedway in Alice Springs.
