Win Highlights Dobson’s Easter Trail

Despite narrowly missing out on the overall point standings victory in the Easter Sprintcar Trail, Shaun Dobson’s weekend was highlighted by an impressive opening round victory at Geelong’s Avalon Raceway.

In what was his second 2016-17 season feature-race win, Dobson, who had started from position nine, came away with a dominant victory that kicked off his Easter Trail campaign in the best possible fashion.

For the remaining two Easter Trail rounds, Dobson showed good pace, despite qualifying further down the feature-race order than he would’ve hoped, and finished fourth in the second round at Mount Gambier’s Borderline Speedway and then a hard-charging fifth in
the third and final round at Warrnambool’s Premier Speedway.

At the conclusion of the Easter Trail, Dobson fell one point short of the overall standings win behind winner Darren Mollenoyux. Despite being obviously disappointed to miss out on the overall win, he was pleased to finish his breakout season on such a strong note.

“I enjoyed a really good run throughout the Easter Trail and we fell just short of the overall win,” said the ACT # 21 Essendon Ford / Quantum Quartz backed Cool driver.

“Looking back, the difference between Darren (Mollenoyux) in the end might have been one point, but I felt that I could’ve qualified a bit better in the feature-race field and that was my downfall in the end.”

For Dobson, the 2016-17 season was his best to date in his eight seasons in 410 Sprintcars. The highlight of the season was without a doubt winning the Scott Darley Challenge at Sydney’s Valvoline Raceway. Dobson finished the season with a total of five podium
finishers, but another standout from the season was being a consistent front-runner contender throughout the season.

The addition of crew chief Shane Finch at the beginning of this season played a huge part in Dobson taking his career to another level.

“Finchy has done an outstanding job with our team this season, and I can’t thank him enough for all of his efforts throughout the season,” praised Dobson.

“We’ve worked well from the outset and he has really complemented our team. It’s fair to say that without him we wouldn’t have been able to run consistently at the front – that’s how much of difference he has made not only the team but me as a driver.”

With the 2016-17 season now over, Dobson and his team are already excited about the 2017-18 season.
