SPRINT TO SUCCESS

It was a case of familiar territory for Matt Egel and Downing Brothers Racing at last Friday night’s meeting at Adelaide Motorsport Park.
Recently celebrating his 32nd birthday, Egel piloted the distinctive orange #S97 Cool to his third A-main victory of the 2016-17 season, and consolidated his lead of the 410 sprintcar track championship pointscore.
Having taken second spot in both of his heat races, Egel started from the second row of the 13-car grid but quickly assumed the lead on the first lap and was never headed during the 25-lap feature.
The victory came on top of Egel taking out a feature win at the venue in the 360 class in late January, leaving him currently leading the track championship points in that category as well.
The wins at the Virginia venue come on top of some previous consistent performances on the road during January, where Egel qualified for the final of the Kings event in Mt Gambier, which was unfortunately rained out, while from an entry list of some 106 cars, he worked through to be a starter in the final 24 cars at the 45th Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic in Warrnambool.
Egel and the team will now turn their attention to contesting the 2017 SA 410 sprintcar championship and USC SA Round 7 meeting at Murray Bridge Speedway on February 25.
