GESSNER ON THE PACE
Author : Ken Brown

Cameron Gessner and the JAK CIVIL #41 Sprintcar contested the annual 'King of the Wings' event at the Perth Motorplex last Saturday evening.
A total of 17 cars ran against the clock in the time trial, with Gessner the fifth fastest with a 13.802 second lap, just 0.123 of a second behind the quick time man.
He started from position 4 in his heat race and came home third.
This meant that Gessner would come out of position 3 in the 40-lap 'King of the Wings' main event, the longest race of the season that features a compulsory pit stop for fuel around the halfway mark.
In the battle for positions soon after the green lights came on, Gessner was shuffled back to fifth.
On lap three he moved up to fourth place.
He maintained that spot up until the red lights came on for the fuel stop.
When the action resumed he was still in fifth position.
The race leader Jason Kendrick crashed out of contention on lap 23 of the race.
Second placed David Priolo was also a non-starter after suffering damage in the incident.
This put Gessner in third place with 17 laps remaining.
He slipped by Lee Nash for second then went back a spot soon afterwards.
Several other competitors were right in the thick of the action and the JAK CIVIL #41 car was now back in fifth.
He ended up crossing the line in sixth place.
The result was not what the team were hoping for, after their strong showing at Bunbury in the previous round.
The car was having handling problems at the halfway mark and although some changes were made during the pit stop it didn't make much difference.
Crew chief Keith Giles will leave no stone unturned in his quest to make sure that the car is set up well for the next appearance of the JAK CIVIL #41 car on Saturday December 10 at the Perth Motorplex for the Salute to the General John Day event which will also double as the WA Sprintcar Championship.
