MANDERS IMPRESSES IN DOUBLE HEADER AT KWINANA
Author : Ken Brown

After a gap of nearly four weeks Kaiden Manders and the J&S Drilling W60 Sprintcar team contested two meetings in two days at the Perth Motorplex.
On Friday November 25 they raced in the Fast Racing Series event, then returned the following evening for the King of the Wings event for the 360 Sprintcar division.
Qualifying on the Friday night saw Manders clocked at 18.719 seconds, which was the third fastest.
He started on the front row in his first 10-lap heat race and crossed the line 1.756 seconds ahead of the much more experienced Kalgoorlie driver Taylor Milling.
In his second outing Manders came from position 9 to finish fifth.
He started on the pole in the 20-lap main event and clocked the fastest lap of the race, a 16.008 second circulation.
Manders was leading the race, when an accident brought on the caution lights.
While working his way back through the cars to regain his spot for the restart, he was hit by another car, breaking his 'jacob's ladder'.
He was able to restart but then another car ran into him, cutting a rear tyre.
A rather bizarre set of circumstances that forced him to retire after 16 laps.
Twenty cars lined up on Saturday with the J&S Drilling car the sixth fastest with a 15.156 second lap in the qualifying session.
Manders came out of position 6 in the first 10-lap heat race and gained two positions in the first half a lap.
A couple of laps later he took over third and was right on the tail of the second car when the chequered flag was waved.
Manders started from position 9 in the next heat and was up to sixth a couple of laps later.
After a car spun the field lined up again, with the talented teenager sitting in position 4.
As the cars came up to the line the third placed car hit the rear of the machine in front of him and both cars spun around, causing another restart.
This mishap saw Manders elevated to second spot and he maintained that position right up to the flag.
He lined up in position 4 in the 20-lap main event, and was shuffled back to sixth when the field settled down.
On lap 3 he gained a spot and then the race was stopped after a crash.
In the latter part of the event, Manders was able to work his way up to finish fourth.
"A pretty good night's racing," was the youngsters comment afterwards.
The team certainly showed plenty of potential and Manders now has a lot more racing laps under his belt, which will serve him well later in the season.
The next outing for the J&S Drilling W60 Sprintcar team will be the Christmas Cup meeting at the Perth Motorplex on Saturday December 10.
