Spitzbarth’s Efforts Are Rewarded

After a tough opening Chariots of Thunder weekend, Simon Spitzbarth was able to fight through and was rewarded with a pair of top-10 results in the second weekend of the Chariots of Thunder.

In only his second season in 360 Sprintcars, Spitzbarth had a mixed run throughout the Chariots of Thunder at his home track – Darwin’s Northline Speedway – but one thing that wasn’t lacking was the determination of him and his team.

Running the Chariots of Thunder up against a strong field of 410 Sprintcar drivers from around the country, Spitzbarth crashed out on both nights of the opening weekend while running strongly in his heat races. Despite being disgruntled, he never gave up and used it as motivation to return to the track the following weekend.

That following weekend of the Chariots of Thunder rewarded Spitzbarth and his team for their hard work with a pair of top-10 finishes in the final two nights of the Chariots of Thunder, which doubled as the Northern Territory Title. On the Friday night, he finished the preliminary feature race in eighth spot (the highest 360 racer), and he then backed it up the following night with another eighth-place finish in the NT Title deciding feature race (the second highest placed 360 racer).

As one would expect, the NT # 43 Streamline Collision Repair Centre / Blumax NT Building Systems sponsored Eagle driver was relieved to come away from the four nights of the Chariots of Thunder with satisfying results.

“It was pleasing to come away with a pair of top-10 results after a tough previous weekend, and I can’t thank my hard-working team for all of their efforts,” commented Spitzbarth.

“Although it was a rollercoaster fortnight of racing, I’ve learned so much as a driver and about my car, and all of this experience gained – both good and bad – is going to benefit me further down the track.”

Spitzbarth would like to give special thanks to his wife (Mary-K Taylor), along with his kids (River, Tyler and Lindsay), his crew (Shane, Colin, Justin and John), as well as his mentor Allan Barlee for all of his amazing support and also Alan Spooner and Freddy Baker.

Spitzbarth would also like to thank the following sponsors for their continued support: Streamline Collision Repair Centre, Blumax NT Building Systems, Atlantic Oils, Nakita Pollock Photography, and SIDS and Kids Australia.
