WSS TV Hosts Weigh-In on Western Swing

ENZED World Series Sprintcars returns to the Perth Motorplex this Saturday for Round 9 of the 2015/16 series, and with joint leaders Jamie Veal and Brooke Tatnell leaving just four rounds to decide a champion, World Series television hosts have weighed in on the potential outcomes.

Fresh from his live coverage of the Bathurst 12 Hour, World Series Sprintcars television host, Chad Neylon claims that this is more than a two horse race, based on comparisons to last year’s series.

“Watch Steven Lines is all I can say,” he said.

“Last year he went winless until the second round at Murray Bridge just like he did last weekend and that breakthrough victory sparked some last season form with another win at Albany, a fourth and a runner up in the lead up to the Grand Final, so if we see a repeat of last year, he will be absolutely in contention for the series.”

Lines currently sits third on the points roster and will return to his team’s hometown of Albany next week, where he won last season, and it’s in that win that Neylon claims is an insight into where the top three racers in the series could feel right at home.

“It’s almost as if the remaining three tracks for the four rounds suit each of the top three, with Lines very much at home at Albany, Tatnell with a ton of wins at Bunbury and Veal who was leading at the Motorplex last season before blowing a right rear.”

However, Neylon was quick to defend the opportunities for the remaining contracted drivers outside the top three.

“All you need to be able to do in the lead up to the Grand Final Is get yourself within reach of the points. We saw last year and many years in the past what can happen at the final, and what can happen when the pressure is applied to the leader.”

Pit Reporter Briony Ingerson also shared her thoughts on probable results, also tipping Monte Motorsport’s Kyle Hirst as a late bloomer in the series.

“Kyle has been consistently fast but has yet to win a WSS race and he came achingly close at Warrnambool, and was unlucky to miss the A Main at Murray Bridge with mechanical issues, but the team will benefit from some time back in their WA workshop and I have no doubt they'll bring their 'A game' to the Western swing.”

“I'm predicting the battle for the championship will go down to the final race, much like it did last season as Jamie Veal is riding high on a wave of confidence, and I haven't seen defending WSS champion Brooke Tatnell with such steely determination as I have in the past month or two so it will be fascinating to watch the 'youth versus experience' storyline play out.”

“Add in the local WA posse of drivers which in my opinion the strongest local competition in the country and we have all the ingredients for a cracker ending to the series!”
