Lines’ Not So Happy Homecoming

Steven Lines and the Halls Motorsport team headed into last Saturday night’s fourth round of the Eureka Garages & Sheds Series at Mount Gambier’s Borderline Speedway loaded with confidence, but it turned out to be one of those forgettable nights.

After winning the past three Eureka Garages & Sheds Series rounds at Borderline Speedway, Lines made a great start to the night by finishing his opening heat race in a solid third place. From there, things turned pear-shaped for the Lines and the team. Lines failed to start the second heat race due to an engine problem. Upon arrival back to the pits, the team swiftly changed engines in readiness to try and salvage a result via the C main. In the C main, Lines was leading comfortably only to then suffer steering box failure and consequently have a brush with the wall. Thankfully, he managed to avoid any major damage and retreated to the infield.

“It was just one of those nights,” the disappointed WA # 3 Penske Truck Rental / Halls Haulage backed KPC driver expressed.

“The night started good, but then things went from bad to worse, thankfully I was able to avoid any further damage after the steering box failed in the C main, so that’s a positive to come out of the night.”

In more positive news for the Halls Motorsport team, on the other side of the country last Saturday night at the Perth Motorplex in Western Australia, David Hall romped to victory in the opening round of the 360 Sprintcars Power Series.

For Hall, it was a mixed night but one that ended with a feature-race win. After topping the time sheets in qualifying, the WA # 5 Halls Haulage supported KPC driver endured a mixed run in the heat races and finished in seventh and sixth respectively. In the feature race, he had qualified sixth and then managed to move his way forward and take over the lead in the closing stages and go on to score a comfortable win.

“It was a night where it started well, I had a bad run in both of my heat races, but then it all came together in the feature race,” commented David Hall, who made a return to the Perth Motorplex for the first time in five years.

“After finishing second in last season’s Power Series, the goal for this season is to try and go one better, and I couldn’t have asked for a better start to the series.”

The next outing for Lines is going to be this Saturday night’s fifth round of the Eureka Garages & Sheds Series at Warrnambool’s Premier Speedway, while the next appearance for Hall is also this Saturday night for what will be the second Power Series round at Bunbury Speedway.
