Watsons Racing supporting Juniors in our sport

Watsons Racing are well known for assisting and supporting others on and off the race track with sponsorship of one kind or another and whilst much of it has been directed towards Sprintcars there has been a number of race cars in other sections that run the Watsons Express Transport banner nowhere is this more prevalent than in the Junior Sedans where three teams have come under the banner of the Watson Express Transport Support of Rob and Sandra Watson.

Brooke Sutton, Emily Collins and Jacinta (Possum) Lawrence, all three are currently racing in the Junior sedan new star division with Brooke moving up to top stars at the start of the new Ellenbrook season.

"Supporting the kids is one of the best things that we do, we love assisting and seeing these kids get an opportunity and to see them improve too is pretty cool" said Rob Watson.

Brooke (Daihatsu Charade 57) who has been under the Watsons banner the longest and started back in Karting for a season before moving to the Junior cars and has enjoyed the support not only with her race car but also with the experience of helping out on the Sprintcar team on Saturday nights at the track.

"Both Em and Brooke come down to the track and help out, this is another opportunity to see what else is out there and to gain knowledge and experience what it's like to be involved with a Sprintcar team" Watson continued.

Due to her age Emily (Toyota Corolla 8) will only get one season in Juniors before having to move on to another division and whilst she is just starting she is already leaning towards an open wheel division, her intent is to race the car her father Kim Collins piloted in limited and 360 Sprintcars previously.

"When Em said she wanted to race Kim and Em were adamant they wanted a rear wheel drive so it didn't take long to locate a good Corolla in Victoria and I said OK lets go racing" Watson stated.

Again with kids in mind Sandra and Rob came up with an idea of giving away a complete Junior race team in a raffle that would enable someone to get into the sport at virtually no cost, a number of Watsons own sponsors got involved as well and the lucky winner was Jacinta Possum Lawrence (Toyota Corolla 66). Possum has run several meetings at the Ellenbrook Speedway and has done an excellent job in such a short time.

"We could not have been happier with how it went off giving the package away at the Perth Motorplex in front of a huge crowd and you could have heard a pin drop when Ron Krikke was about to read out the winners name and once he did you just heard this screaming and kids running down the step onto the track it was so cool".

There is no doubt that Watsons Express Transport and Watsons racing are big supporters of juniors but its the two people behind the business and team, Rob and Sandra Watson who make it all happen and its them that can see the importance of supporting the kids to help the long term future of the sport of Speedway.

"These are great kids and we love supporting them where we can, it's kids like this that are the future of our sport and we need to start at the grass roots to bring them through".
