Ian Madsen Nets Fifth and Sixth Place Finishes

Traveling to Wheatland, MO to take on the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour over the weekend, Ian Madsen and his KCP Racing team recorded fifth and sixth place finish in a weekend that paid homage to Jesse Hockett and Daniel McMillin.

“The term gets used a lot, but we were much better than our finishes indicate and they were two good finishes,” Madsen said. “We just finished right outside of lock in spots, and had some tough luck in redraws that put us a little further back than we would have liked.”

Hitting the Lucas Oil Speedway on Friday night, Madsen would pull a very high pill for his heat race position and line the Nehring Construction/Team Kline Electric/Logan Contractors Supply No. 18 machine up in the third row.

On a very racy track surface, Madsen would put together a great heat race as he carved his way forward and picked up the win. With his performance, Madsen was the top point earner on this night but as luck would have it, he would pull the eight pill for the feature event.

Coming from the fourth row, Madsen was able to work his way forward and into the top-five as the race progressed. Sliding his way into the fourth and final Saturday night lock in spot late in the race, Madsen had his hands full with Sam Hafertepe Jr, and Brad Loyet as they all batted.

In the closing laps, an errant slide job attempt would get Madsen over the cushion, and it would result in Madsen rebounding to finish fifth, just one position out of a lock in spot.

Returning to the speedway on Saturday night, Madsen would again put together a strong performance in his heat race as he worked forward from fifth to finish second aboard his Greenland Homes of IA/Royal Flooring/Aspen Aire backed entry.

Just missing out on a redraw spot, the St. Marys, NSW driver would line up ninth in the feature event. Running in the eighth position much of the race, Madsen would battle with Johnny Herrera and Tony Bruce, Jr in the race’s closing laps.

Able to get by both drivers, Madsen ended his weekend with a sixth place finish.

“We were really good both nights, and I have to thank my guys for their hard work,” Madsen said. “If we lock into the redraw on Saturday night it could have been a different story, but we did not and we moved forward.”
