Making a stop north of the border to kick off the final west coast swing of the season, Kerry Madsen opened the Oil City Cup up on Friday night with a fourth place finish before finishing sixth during the Saturday night finale.

“We were really good on Friday night, and on Saturday night they re worked the track prior to the feature and the track didn’t do what we thought it would and ended up being a little too free,” Kerry Madsen explained.

Timing the American Racing/Keneric Racing No. 29 machine in fifth fastest in qualifying time trials, Madsen would finish fourth in his heat race and earn a spot in the Dash.

Lining the American Racing Custom Wheels No. 29 machine up second, Madsen would finish in the third position, putting him in the second row for the 30-lap A Main.

A wild feature event would see eight caution flags waive, as Madsen ran in the fourth spot, chasing after the lead trio of Donny Schatz, Shane Stewart and Joey Saldana.

When the dust settled on the race, Madsen took the checkered flag with a fourth place finish aboard his Keneric Racing/American Racing backed machine.

The Oil City Cup finale would open up with the “Mad Man” timing in second quickest before another fourth place finish in heat race action.

Finishing seventh in the Dash, the American Racing Custom Wheels backed entry would line up in the fourth row of the 30-lap Oil City Cup A Main event. With track prep crews bringing the track back to life prior to the feature, Madsen and his team adjusted their machine to what they thought the track would do, but they would admittedly guess wrong.

“We thought the track would stay pretty hooked up, but it blew off and we were really free,” Madsen added.

Hanging inside the Top-10 for much of the race, Madsen would close his final trip to Canada of the seas out with a sixth place finish.

“It was a really strong weekend for us, and now we will head down the Western states looking for some good finishes and more wins,” Madsen said. “Huge thanks to the Gavranich family, as well as everyone at American Racing Custom Wheels.”
