Watsons Racing early start and the season ahead
Author : SSM

This season Watsons racing have taken a different approach to their racing season, by commencing their season earlier than normal with a handful of meetings being undertaken at the top end of Australia in readiness for the coming racing seasonin Perth. The culmination of that being this coming weekend at the national 360 Sprintcar title at Darwin.

“We thought it would be good to get some meetings in early so Rib (Robert WatsonJr) is race ready come the season opener at the Motorplex, Rib loves racing his 360 and it was a great opportunity for the team to have a bit of fun up in Darwin as well. I would personally like to thank Rentco for their fantastic support whilst running the 360 shows during the past month in Darwin it’s been awesome”.

” Said team Owner Robert Watson snr.

The 360 team, made up of Watson Jr and team newcomer Trent Pigdon have both come out of the blocks with excellent car speed but at the last outing a mechanical failure for Pigdon and a crash while lapping traffic for Watson has lessened what has been a great series for the team so far.

“We could have finished on the podium last time out but with sprintcar racing you never know what is going to happen, Trent has done a good job since getting back behind the wheel and Rib is always very comfortable in the 360 so hopefully this weekend we can really show what both these boys can do”.

The team have significantly reduced their sponsorship commitments to other teams and drivers this season, which will enable a bigger capacity for the team to travel and race where and when they want.

“I have enjoyed looking after certain drivers and teams but I want to make sure that we have plenty of fun this season and we can travel if we want and go over east if we feel like it so this way we can. I have spent a lot of money over past seasons and maybe it’s time to spend more of it within,so thanks to anyone that has asked for sponsorship but please don’t send anymore proposals” said Watsons Snr.

When the team returns to Perth in a week or so both 410 cars will be finished off in readiness for the season opener at the Motorplex, with Ken Sartori once again joining Watson Jr, when time permits from his work schedule.

“We are fully committed to running Ken whenever he can, his car speed and racecraft is just awesome and with the mechanical failures we had on both cars last season we have decided to fully commit to running Maxwill Motors this season which will hopefully give both Ken and Rib a good opportunity to show what they can do”

Watsons Racing would like to thank, Rentco, Watsons Express Transport, Sidchrome, Valvoline, West Coast High Performance, and Maxwill Motors for their support of the team.
