Madsen Picks Up Pair Of Runner Up Finishes

Ian Madsen and his KCP Racing team are getting closer to finding victory lane. Hitting the dirt on two occasions over the weekend, Madsen would pick up two runner up finishes, and establish a New Track Record at the Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, WI.

“We were very pleased with how we ran,” Ian Madsen said. “We have been all over the board as of late, so it felt really good to be consistent and land on the podium twice.”

Saturday night at the Knoxville Raceway, Madsen would get his weekend started off on a good note as he timed the Nehring Construction/Kline Electric/Logan Contractors Supply Inc. No. 18 machine in fifth fastest amongst the 27 drivers checked in at the ‘Mecca of Mud’.

Lining up in the sixth spot for his eight-lap heat race, Madsen was able to pick up a position and finish fifth to transfer himself directly into the 20-lap feature event where he would find himself starting on the pole.

Sharing the front row with fellow Knoxville Raceway Champion, Danny Lasoski, Madsen would get the jump as the race came to life. Looking very strong out front, Madsen found himself in lapped traffic by the fifth lap, and had company in the name of Justin Henderson.

Slipping to the second spot on the seventh lap, Madsen would fall back to third following a restart on the eighth lap. Chasing after Lasoski and Henderson, Madsen would take advantage of a Henderson miscue with just two laps remaining in the race and take over the second spot, where he would eventually finish the race.

Heading to the Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, WI on Sunday night to continue to prepare for the upcoming NSL visit at the speedway, Madsen made noise early in the night as he established a New Track Record during qualifying time trials.

Finishing fourth in his heat race, the St. Marys, NSW, AU driver would line up in the third row for the night’s feature event. Jumping into the fifth spot when the race got underway, Madsen would work his way up to fourth as the leaders got into traffic in just five laps.

Getting by Bill Rose on the seventh lap to take over the third spot, Madsen was able to reel in the lead duo on the 12th lap. By lap 15 Madsen had raced past Bill Balog to take over the second spot, as he set his sights on the race leader in the closing laps.

In the race’s closing laps, several cautions would slow the race, and give the leader open track, and though Madsen would try everything he could, he came up just short and picked up his second consecutive runner up finish.

“I am really excited for our team, and hope this propels us to a good week ahead,” Madsen said. “We have a ton of speed, and our car has been really strong. This KCP racing team is awesome, and each and every person involved is great to work with.”
