Explosive Sydney Sprintcar young gun Max Johnston has secured a unique and spectacular driving opportunity overseas.

The 21 year old will make his World of Outlaws debut in Canada in July-August after securing a one-off drive with Five Five Motorsports for two rounds.

“It’s a very sudden and very out of the blue opportunity,” grins the excitable hard charger from Razorback in NSW, “but it’s something I think I need to grab with both hands. Who knows where it might lead?”

With the Five Five Motorsports regular driver missing from the seat on the weekend of July 31st / August 1st Johnston will sub in at the Brockville and Autodrome Drummond Speedways.

“Obviously I’ve never raced in Canada before, and I’ve never raced in a World of Outlaw event but I spoke to James McFadden yesterday and he’s raced at one of those tracks. He’ll be competing when I’m there too on that weekend so that gives me a bit of extra confidence. He’s a real professional and he’s offered me a bit of support and advice when we’re there. I can’t tell you how much that means,” Johnston explains.

Coming off his fifth season in Australian Sprintcar racing where he again showed blistering speed but a career-first A-Main win as yet eluded him the determined youngster is ready to make amends for that upon returning home in August.

“We’re working hard on our sponsorship plans and racing program for next season right now. I’m excited about the announcements made recently at Valvoline Raceway about the Ultimate Sprintcar Championship and the plans they have to really elevate the sport. It’s an exciting time to be a Sprintcar driver.”

The Five Five Motorsports team is Canadian and whilst they have predominantly run 360ci competition in the past in their Mach 1 chassis they have a new 410ci Rider engine ready for the Outlaw assault.

“I’m thrilled that the Five Five Motorsport Team have given me this opportunity and I can’t wait to get over there and make something happen. Hopefully it will open the door to other opportunities in Canada or America. All I can do is put myself in the position to further myself.”
