Madsen Fifth at ‘The Big E’

Kerry Madsen and his Keneric Racing/American Racing team put a frustrating week behind them as they invaded the Eldora Speedway on Friday and Saturday night, and had two strong runs resulting in fifth and sixth place finishes.

“We had a really strong weekend,” Madsen said. “We had a car capable of winning on Friday night, but a shock issue and a hole in the right rear saw us fade back to sixth at the end of the night, and on Friday night we were very strong and moved forward to fifth from 12th.”

Friday night, Madsen opened his night up by timing in 10th fastest, before picking up a win during his heat race, and making himself dash eligible. With the draw playing out to his advantage, Madsen would find himself on the pole of the six lap shootout.

Grabbing the Dash win, Madsen would lead the field to green for the 30-lap feature event as he was very strong in the early goings, as he left Donny Schatz in his wake. At the race’s halfway point, the battle for the lead picked up in traffic, and after dueling for a few laps, Madsen would fall to the second spot, as he hung with Schatz.

Late in the race, Madsen would slowly slip through the field, as he held on to a sixth place finish as his right rear began going down, and he fought a suspension issue.

Saturday night, Madsen would get off to another strong start as he timed his machine in eighth fastest before finishing fourth in his heat race.

Lining up in the sixth row for the 30-lap feature event, Madsen continued to show great speed at the Eldora Speedway as many have been accustomed to, as he carved his way forward to end his weekend with a fifth place finish.

“These races are tough, and it’s always a good confidence boost when you can finish in the Top-5 after starting behind the dash cars,” Madsen explained. “We have had some funky things happen to us lately, and hopefully we can get some better luck on our side and string a couple of wins together.”
