WSS Back At Murray Bridge This Friday
Author : Phil Michell

Fresh from his record breaking victory at last Sunday night’s Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic at the Sungold Stadium in Warrnambool, Californian Kyle Hirst leads an all-star cast this Friday night as the Murray Machining and Sheds Murray Bridge Speedway hosts round 8 of Enzed World Series Sprintcars.

Hirst, who currently sits third overall in the series standings, will also be joined by the likes of series leader Brooke Tatnell, current Australian Champion Dave Murcott and Matt Egel, who won round 2 at the venue on December 27, in what is shaping up to be the biggest Sprintcar show of the 2014/15 Murray Bridge season.

For the second time this season the car count is expected to exceed 40 drivers from across Australia and the USA, with America fielding four entries. In addition to Hirst, multiple Knoxville Raceway Track Champion Terry McCarl, veteran Randy Hannagan and Pennsylvania young gun Danny Holtgraver are among the nomination list, making it one of the strongest international driver line-ups ever seen at Murray Bridge.

In fact, the nomination list is stronger than the recent December 27 Speedweek round.

Western Australia will have a strong presence with former series Champion Robbie Farr, Darryl Clayden, Lee Nash, Scott Reilly and Jason Pryde while Tasmania will be represented by livewire Shaun Dobson. Sydneysider and current Knoxville Track Champion and former World of Outlaws feature winner Ian Madsen will also be one to watch, while Brisbane based James McFadden and Warrnambool speedsters Jamie Veal and Darren Mollenouyx are always a threat whenever they front for action.

The South Aussie Posse will be out to defend their home turf with World Series Champion Steven Lines, Speedweek Champion Luke Dillon, Bordertown resident Dylan Jenkin, Victorian Champion Daniel Pestka, Ryan Jones, Jamie Cobby and Steven and Mark Caruso all expected to make their presence felt.

In what will be a huge open wheeled double the event will also feature the rescheduled Formula 500 King of the Bridge, which was initially rained out in November. Currently the nomination list consists of over 30 drivers from across South Australia, Victoria and Western Australia. The 360 metre Murray Bridge venue is without doubt one of the best Formula 500 tracks in the country and with a line-up of over 30 cars the racing will be first class.

Drivers to watch throughout the night will include Sprintcar driver Stephen Bell (Vic), last start winner Lisa Walker (SA), Dylan Willsher (Vic), Andrew Priolo (WA), Dale and Ash Sinclair (Vic), Leigh Van Ginneken (Vic), Angelo Karoussis (SA), Matthew Symons (Vic), Scott Dungey (SA) and Terry Rankin (Vic).

With a full program of events, the support racing will begin at 4pm, followed by Sprintcar engine starts and time trials at 5.30pm.

The WSS Heat action will kick off just beforet 7.00pm, giving ample time for patrons to finish work and get to the track. Gates open at 2pm.
