Jackson on a charge all the way home

Jackson Delamont returns to Valvoline Raceway this Saturday night, January 31 for the resumption of the Sprintcar Track Championship.

After a very successful southern tour for the likeable 20 year old, attention now turns back to the tough domestic scene.

“We had a good run at the Classic at Warrnambool and at Avalon,” Jackson said.

“On our qualifying night for the Classic, we thought we were going to be in a lot of trouble seeing other guys just before us qualify badly. We ended up qualifying 27th out of 53 cars on our night, which we were very happy with.

“That gave us two mid-pack starts and we recorded two third place finishes which put us straight into the A-Main. It was the first feature I have made in Warrnambool and frankly, we learnt more in 30 laps than we have all year. We ran up against the wall a fair bit which is a lot different to being at Parramatta all season where there is no wall.”

It is an art form, to be able to run against the wall and it is something that is learnt from many laps as Jackson explains.

“Spending last season on World Series Sprintcars helped a lot. Racing at a number of different tracks gave me invaluable experience and showed me how different tracks are. For example, at Avalon, you throw everything you know about driving a Sprintcar out the window!” Jackson laughed, “but it’s true because it is completely different. That’s what the challenge about Sprintcar racing is always.”

Going into this weekend, Jackson is placed seventh in the track championship standings, only 166 points off the lead. With only seven rounds remaining, he understands it is “go” time if he wants to figure in the standings at season’s end.

“We were hoping to be around this point at this stage but you can never get ahead of yourself in Sprintcar racing. Everyone knows there are good nights and bad nights. We are still going the philosophy to just do our best and the results will look after themselves.”

Racing begins on Saturday night at 6pm with time trials. If you can’t make it trackside you can always check out Valvoline Raceway’s Clay-Per-View (www.clayperview.com) and watch out for the live updates on Jackson’s Facebook page – www.facebook.com/jacksondelamont48.
