Anderson’s Classic Podium

To say that Grant Anderson was rapt with his podium finish in last weekend’s Grand Annual Classic at Warrnambool’s Premier Speedway would be a rather large understatement.

In what is regarded as the biggest Sprintcar event in Australia, Anderson managed to finish third behind winner Kyle Hirst and second placed Brooke Tatnell.

“I had some lucky breaks in my heat races, and I was able to qualify on the second row and then make the most of it and finish on the podium,” Anderson expressed, who had qualified third for the Grand Annual Classic deciding feature race.

“Due to the rain delay prior to the feature race, we had to throw our original feature race setup out of the window and start again. Thankfully, the setup our team went with was the correct one and it rewarded us with a podium result.”

Anderson continued on by saying that his result is a major boost for the team and is also a new career personal highlight.

“We came away with a good share of the prize money, which is great for our budget team,” he said.

“It’s definitely a new career highlight for me, because the Grand Annual Classic is the country’s biggest event that attracts some of the best drivers from around the world, so to podium in this class of competition is fantastic.”

Earlier in the Grand Annual Classic, Anderson had started the weekend by qualifying seventh on the second night. Following that, he finished third and fifth in the heat races and then seventh in the preliminary feature race. Heading into the third and final night, he was 10th in the overall point standings. Following a second-place finish in his third and final heat race, Anderson jumped up to third in the point standings and therefore started the feature race from inside the second row.

Leading up to the Grand Annual Classic, Anderson didn’t have the best of runs. On the Wednesday night at Avalon Raceway (Geelong, Vic) for the President’s Cup, he failed to advance out of the C main, while the following night at Borderline Speedway (Mount Gambier, SA) for the King’s Challenge, he missed out on a feature race transfer spot by one position in the B main.

In regards to the remainder of the 2014-15 season, Anderson is unsure about the schedule. However, he plans to announce it shortly.
Anderson would like to especially thank Graham and Jenny from Bandag Latrobe Valley, for their continued support.
