Walsh’s Impressive Classic Debut

Despite not making the feature race of the Grand Annual Classic, Sammy Walsh still managed to impress throughout the weekend at Warrnambool’s Premier Speedway.

On the final night, Walsh retired from the B main while running seventh shortly before the lengthy rain delay, which forfeited the opportunity to qualify into the Grand Annual Classic deciding feature race.

“I was battling with a few drivers for seventh, but then I dropped off the pace,” explained the NSW # 92 Fleck Earthmoving & Plumbing / EWT Auto Dismantlers supported Maxim driver.

“I thought it was best to pull in and save the car, but in saying that, we learned a lot from the weekend and are going to be better off for the experience.

“Hopefully I will be able to return to Warrnambool later in the season for the Easter Trail, but we’ll see how things go.”

Walsh might’ve finished his Grand Annual Classic debut on a disappointing note; however, he showed plenty of fight throughout the weekend as his team got a better handle of the car. After qualifying a disappointing 35th in time trials on the second night, he fought his way back to finish ninth in the preliminary feature race (from position 17) after progressing forward in both of his heat races and then winning the B main. Sitting 29th on points heading into the final night, Walsh ran fourth in his final heat race, which wasn’t enough to book him a spot directly into the feature-race field.

The weekend prior to the Grand Annual Classic, Walsh competed in the Scott Darley Challenge at Sydney’s Valvoline Raceway. It turned out to be mixed two nights of competition for him, when he ran fourth in the preliminary feature race after starting from position 24 in the field and then on the final night struggled in the feature race after starting and finishing in 17th.

This Saturday night, Walsh returns to Valvoline Raceway for the next round of the track championship. Walsh is sitting fifth in the current track championship point standings.

“I’m looking forward to getting back to racing in Sydney,” Walsh enthused.

“We’re sitting strongly in the track championship, so hopefully we can move forward in the point standings as the season winds down with some good results.”

Walsh would like to thank Fleck Earthmoving & Plumbing, Walsh Constructions, EWT Auto Dismantlers, SVH Auto Body Shop, and www.myspeedway.com.au, for their 2014-15 season support.
