Home Town Hero Wins At Tolmer

Last night the South Australian Sprintcar drivers hit the highway for the longest road trip on the 2014/15 QSS SA Sprintcar Shootout tour but it was a driver who travelled no more than 10 mins to the race track who emerged the victor as Dylan Jenkin won this third feature event of the five rounds contested.

After starting from the outside of the front row Jenkin actually fell back to third in the early stages of the race but two magnificent outside passes, on both Daniel Pestka and race leader Scott Bogucki, as they encountered lapped traffic set up what was an emotional home town win.

“At the start of the race the top of the track was a little greasy but as the race went on it came in and when both Daniel and Scott got caught up on the bottom in the lapped traffic I just used it to my advantage. They both didn’t realise how good it was up there so I caught them by surprise” added an elated winner.

“This is the best way to end my home track hoodoo and it is the first time a lot of my family and friends have seen me win a race so it is pretty cool”.

Second across the line was pole sitter Bogucki, who recorded his second series podium of the season, while Craig Vanderstelt was outstanding all night getting by Pestka with a lap to go to round out the podium results in what was an extremely entertaining 25 lap final.

Pestka held on for fourth while Luke Dillon scrapped his way to fifth with new State Champion Brad Keller, who was driving the Downing Brothers #97, Justin Sloan, Mark Caruso, Hayden Pitt and Ryan Jones completing the top ten.

During the feature event Adam Currie unfortunately rolled his immaculate #59 on lap 16 after Glen Sutherland, who was running inside the top six, tagged the pit gate on a restart cutting down his right rear tyre leaving the cars behind nowhere to go as Sutherland slowed in turn one.

Earlier the heat winners were Justin Sloan, Ryan Jones, Scott Bogucki and Dylan Jenkin. Heat two winner Ryan Jones was extremely lucky as he rolled his #63 XXX in turn three after the chequered flag with Ryan later stating that he didn’t even realise the race was over and simply made a driving mistake as he tagged the turn three wall.

The event also saw a packed support program with Round 3 of the MJS Street Stock Series, Formula 500’s, Lightning Sprints and Junior Formula 500’s and Junior Sedans all in action on the tight “Bullring”.

In the Formula 500’s it was Australian Champion Brock Hallett who defeated local pilot Patrick Merritt and Josh Michelmore while Street Stock standout Anthony Beare won the MJS Street Stock supported event. Jason Wilson was an easy winner in the Lightning Sprint feature while Nathan Thorne collected yet another Junior Sedan feature victory. The Junior Formula 500’s were more of a demonstration class with Jack Disbury and Victorian Haylee Butler enjoying the chance to compete on the Tolmer Speedway Clay.

The Tolmer Speedway at Bordertown will now take a break with the final meeting being staged on Easter Friday with the running of the 2015 South Australian 360ci Sprintcar Championship with both the Super Sedans and Speedcars both featuring as the main support classes.
