Important weekend ahead for Toby Bellbowen

Toby Bellbowen goes into this Saturday night’s fifth round of the Sprintcar Track Championship excited about what lays ahead.

Although last meeting Toby had a number of issues which hindered him in the 30 lap A-Main, he is using his outstanding effort in the pole shuffle to drive him to hopeful success this weekend.

And this weekend will not be easy, by anyone’s standards. A total of 60 cars have nominated for the event and with only 24 positions up for grabs in the A-Main, he knows he will have to be switched on from the outset of qualifying.

“The car count is up by about 10 cars this week from last time we raced, and they are all quality cars,” Toby said today.

“We need to be in the top 8 for time-trials, so we'll have to be on our toes. We have qualified well in the first 4 races and hopefully we can keep that roll going. You don't get too many chances in Sydney.”

Such is Toby’s consistency, he is the only driver who has qualified in the top four on all four nights so far this season.

As frustrating as the one week on one week off can be for a driver, Toby did put the week off to good use.

“I would've preferred to be racing somewhere in the country but it was a relaxing weekend off. In saying that though, I've pushed myself to make sure I'm physically ready for what I'm sure will be a tough night on Saturday night.

“The car is the same. We have run well with it and have more things to try while still keeping it basic. It's a good feeling to have week in - week out.”

Getting that first A-Main win on a night like Saturday night would definitely be a boost to Toby’s career, especially with the quality field nominated.

“Of course it would be great to win at any time, but to do so in front of the field of cars we have this weekend would be a big boost for us in every way. The best part is I know we can, it's about execution on Saturday night.

“We have Australian champions, WSS winners, State title holders and a whole bunch of other guys turning up in our backyard this week, but we have to treat them all the same. I've got every confidence in my team and our possibilities of getting the job done. We were fast last time out, and I don't see why we can't build on that. Mentally and physically I'm the most prepared I've ever been.”

Toby’s upcoming schedule is as follows;

December 6 – Valvoline Raceway
December 26 – Valvoline Raceway
December 27 – Valvoline Raceway
December 29 – Valvoline Raceway
January 1 – Valvoline Raceway
