Blake Skipper – Born to race
Author : Blake Skipper Racing Media

When he turned 16, Blake Skipper only had one option and that was to go Speedway racing. As a kid growing up, Blake would be at the race track to watch his dad, Wayne, compete in the Sprintcar division and Blake just knew it was for him.

Beginning in the Wingless Sprints division, Blake stepped up into the big 410ci winged Sprintcar division when he turned 18 - four years ago and frankly, has never looked back.

“I knew all along racing was something I wanted to do,” Blake recalls.

“Growing up, watching dad race, just made it even more of a desire of mine and having the opportunity to work with dad in the garage growing up really made my passion for the sport strong.

Blake has established himself as one of the state’s real up and coming youngsters. The former Speedway Australia Rising Star participant has performed admirably in recent seasons and at the last Sprintcar show, started to put his season into top gear.

As is the case with most Sprintcar drivers, they need to work to race and Blake is no different as each day he sets off for work as a carpenter.

“It's a hectic schedule preparing mine and dad’s cars in between work as a carpenter but it's something that keeps me busy and out of trouble so I guess that's not always a bad thing,” Blake said with a smile.

Putting the focus on this weekend, the big car count nominated for the event means Blake will have to be switched on, right from the outset and he is fully aware of that.

“I think after last meetings effort we can only build from this but having 60 cars nominated will be a test of our character and strength but at the same time I'm really looking forward to racing some of the country’s best drivers at the moment.”

You can receive updates as they happen on race night simply by liking the Blake Skipper Racing page on Facebook, and if you are trackside, make sure you head on down to the pits at the end of the night and catch up with Blake. He is more than happy to interact with the race fans.

Blake Skipper Racing would like to thank all of their valued sponsors for their support of the 2014/15 campaign.
