The 2014/15 South Australian Wingless Sprint season is officially underway with a double header at the Murray Machining and Sheds Murray Bridge Speedway and the Tolmer Speedway at Bordertown in early October and a further event at Murray Bridge last weekend. The official season opener followed the traditional non-points event at Murray Bridge the week prior therefore the local competitors have had a very busy start to what should be one of the biggest season’s that the class has enjoyed in this state.

Following the non-points event, that saw 10 drivers front for action including four rookies, the Murray Bridge meeting saw 17 cars front for action with local Murray Bridge star Jarman Dalitz getting the better of Joel Chadwick in a titanic battle in the feature event. Third across the line in the 15 lap final was Victorian Mick Parry, with impressive rookie Ben Disbury putting in a stunning drive to finish fourth. Michael Spoljaric had a consistent run to finish fifth ahead of debutante Mark Martin, Victorian David White with the rookie trio of William Caruso, David Cuppleditch and Casey Vanderstelt completing the top ten.

Unfortunately the feature event saw a nasty roll over for local Murray Bridge racer Brett Ireland after making contact with the spinning Robert Heard. Earlier in the night the heat victories went the way of Wayne Kirley, Chadwick and Parry.

The following night saw a small field venture to Bordertown for the Tolmer Speedway season opener and once again it was Jarman Dalitz who won the feature event ahead of fellow Murray Bridge racer Robert Heard with Mick Parry once again on the podium. Fourth across the line was Brett Ireland who bounced back from his roll over the night prior in fine style while Tim Synnett, Mark Martin and David White completed the finishers.

Heat one saw Dalitz defeat Heard and Ireland while the second preliminary went the way of Parry ahead of Heard and Dalitz.

After a short break the Wingless Sprints returned to action last Saturday night at Murray Bridge with a record field fronting to do battle. With 23 cars in the pit area a B-main was conducted for the first time ever at a club show with the top four drivers transferring into the 18 car feature field.

Prior to the final, four heats were conducted with Joel Chadwick, Robert Heard, Chris Ferrall and Jarman Dalitz all winning entertaining heat races while the B-Main saw Jason Wilson, David Cuppleditch, Ben Disbury and David White all transferring into the A-main.

After starting on the front row Robert Heard went on to dominate the final but it was far from a boring event as the battle for second was a real scrap between Ferrall, Chadwick and Ireland until the latter spun on the final lap dropping back to sixth. In the end Ferrall just got the better of Chadwick with Dan Evans, Jason Bolitho, Ireland, Wayne Kirley, Disbury, Matthew Kennedy and Tim Synnett completing the top ten.

Unfortunately Jarman Dalitz was unable to compete for a hat trick of wins as his machine suffered a flat battery and he was unable to take the green.

The next event for the Wingless Sprints in South Australia will be on October 25 at Speedway City with drivers getting their first hit out at the venue for this season ahead of the Australian Championship in February 2015. Currently the entry list for this Saturday night stands at 22 competitors therefore the competition will once again be extremely tough and extremely entertaining.
