Following a very strong showing with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Cars a week ago, Kyle Hirst stayed hot, as he followed the King of the West Series down south, where he would become the first ever winged sprint car winner at the Ventura Raceway, one night after running second at the Santa Maria Speedway.

“This Roth Motorsports team has been really strong the last two weeks, and it’s a testament to how hard my guys have been working,” Hirst said. “We were really good with the World of Outlaws, and even better this weekend.”

Saturday night saw the King of the West Series make history at the Ventura Raceway in Ventura, CA as they became the first winged cars to race on the tight confines.

With 19 cars making the trip, Hirst kicked the night off by timing his Roth Enterprises/HR Livestock Transportation/3H Cattle No. 83jr machine in second fastest.

Turning in a very strong performance in his heat race, the Chico, CA driver was able to forge his way from his fourth starting spot, to earn the win, and earn a berth in the night’s dash.

Lining up on the pole of the dash by way of the draw, Hirst would wire the field, as he picked up the win, and put the Mobil1/FK Rod Ends/Weld Wheels entry on the pole for the 30-lap feature event.

When the race went green, Hirst was able to hold all challengers at bay as he set the pace on the tight confines of the Ventura Raceway, as the leaders quickly found themselves in traffic.

With the race’s lone stoppage coming on the 16th lap, Hirst was flawless on the restart, and went on to lead the final 14 laps, as he eventually took the checkered flag in impressive fashion.

“It is pretty cool to win the first ever winged sprint car race at Ventura,” Hirst said. “It was also cool to see how packed the stands were. I was really surprised how well the track raced, and hopefully we can get back down here next year.”

Friday night saw Hirst and the King of the West Sprint Cars check in at the Santa Maria Speedway in Nipomo, CA.

With 23 cars on hand, Hirst timed in fifth fastest, before finishing in the third spot during his heat race, and the dash.

Lining up in the second row of the feature event on the rough and tumble Santa Maria Speedway, Hirst sat in the third spot when the green flag dropped, as he chased after the Kaeding duo of Bud and Brent.

Moving into the second spot on the 10th lap, Hirst stalked race leader, Brent Kaeding for 10-laps until he was able to make his move on the 20th lap, and take command of the race.

While out front, Hirst soon felt pressure from Jason Statler, and on the 23rd lap, he would lose the lead, as Statler was able to make a strong move on him.

Keeping Statler within shouting distance, Hirst would try to make a late move, but was unable to, as he finished in the second spot.

“Overall it was a great weekend for our team,” Hirst said. “We ran very well, and seem to really be clicking now with some big races still to come. I can’t thank the entire Roth family for their support, and my team for continuing to work hard, and put me in a great spot.”

By way of his strong weekend, Hirst extended his series point lead over Bud Kaeding to 105 markers with just two events left on the schedule.
