Xtreme Motorsport drivers Jamie O’Neill and Ben Atkinson dominated last Saturday night’s Darwin 410 Sprintcar Title at Northline Speedway.

The pair delivered a 1-2 result for the team, with O’Neill heading home Atkinson in the 15-lap feature race to claim the Darwin Title.

Starting from pole position in the feature race, O’Neill opted to start from the outside in the NT # 24 Xtreme Garden Care supported Maxim, powering to the lead from the drop of the flag and holding it for the duration of the race.

Atkinson, who’d won the last two meetings in the NSW # 2 Xtreme Motorsport backed Maxim, chased hard throughout the journey, but was unable to catch his teammate for the first time this season.

It was O’Neill’s maiden Darwin Title success, adding to his NT 360 Sprintcar Title success in 2011.

“It was great to get a win over Benny (Atkinson),” commented a pleased O’Neill.

“To get a 1-2 finish for the team is the best possible result anyone could ever ask for. The car was great all night, so it was good to be able to put it all together and win the Darwin Title, and also repay the team for all of their continued hard work.”

O’Neill enjoyed a strong run leading into the feature race, finishing inside the top three of all of his three heat races, while Atkinson finished second in two out of the three heat races. In the other heat race, he failed to finish due to a throttle problem, which was able to be rectified prior to the feature race.

The next event for the Xtreme Motorsport team will be on Saturday night, August 23 at Northline Speedway, where they are aiming to continue their winning ways at the running of the Northern Territory 410 Sprintcar Title.
