The end of James McFadden’s 2014 North America Tour came by way of the Knoxville Nationals, and the end result was not exactly what McFadden and his team had in mind.

“We had an awesome trip together, but it was a little disappointing to end it the way we did,” McFadden said. “I can’t thank the entire JG Racing team for all of their hard work, and all of their efforts.”

Taking to the Knoxville Raceway on Thursday night for his qualifying night, McFadden timed in 40th quickest during time trials, putting him on the pole of his heat race, but found himself in a pretty big hole already.

Finishing fourth in his heat race on the big ½ mile speedway, McFadden earned the transfer to the feature event, but he was buried in the field, as he rolled off 20th for the 20-lap feature event.

With rains postponing the Wednesday night program to Friday, and delaying the start of the Thursday night show, the track was very fast, and passing on this night was tough.

Focusing on hitting his marks, McFadden was able to pick up a few spots through the race, as he ended his night with an 18th place finish.

With a low point total, McFadden and team were back in action on Saturday morning for the non-qualifers show, where he would race to settle the starting grids for the opening Saturday night feature events.

Finishing third in his heat race, McFadden would start 13th in the A Main event, and an 11th place finish would put him on the front row of the Saturday night D Main.

Lining up on the pole of the D, McFadden was able to finish in the second position, and transfer his way into the night’s C Main event, though he would have his work cut out for him as he tagged the rear of the field.

Lining up 22nd in the C, McFadden was able to avoid a huge wreck on the opening lap that ultimately caused a lengthy delay. When the action went back to green, the Ormeau, QLD driver was able to make some moves, as he worked his way up to a 12th place finish to close out his Nationals.

“I did learn a lot about Knoxville getting so many laps on it,” McFadden said. “It is really different from anything I get to run on regularly, so hopefully I can build on this in the future. Again, I can’t thank everyone enough who made this trip possible for me.”
