Kicking his week off with a big win at the 3rd Capitani Classic, Ian Madsen piloted his KCP Racing throwback car to an 8th place finish from his 15th starting spot in the Saturday night B Main at the Knoxville Nationals.

“It was not the Saturday night we were hoping for, but it was still a decent result,” Madsen said. “The beauty of this race is it comes back next year, so we will be back and look to do better.”

Battling a pesky weather system providing a mist through the night on Thursday night, the St. Marys, NSW driver timed his Nehring Construction/Kline Electric/Royal Flooring machine in 34th quickest with 52 cars checked into the pit area.

Lining up on the pole of his heat race, Madsen would go on to pick up the heat win, and in doing so set a new 10-lap track record at the historic ½ mile as he earned a position in the night’s A Main event.

On a very fast racing surface, Madsen lined up in the eighth row for the 25-lap feature event, and he put together a nice run.

Fighting with Knoxville regulars Cole Wood, and Jon Agan during much of the feature event, Madsen would end his night with an eleventh place finish.

“We didn’t time in like we had hoped, and qualifying points are huge with the format,” Madsen said. “We did what we could in our heat, and won, and in the feature we grabbed a few spots, so all we could do from that point is watch the next night and see what our fate was for Saturday night.”

When things were tallied up, Madsen found himself lining up in the eighth row of the B main for the Saturday night program.

After finishing in the fourth spot during Saturday afternoon’s Speed Sport World Challenge race, Madsen and his team watched the early part of the Saturday night program to learn the track, and see how it would change leading up to their hot lap session and feature event.

When the time came, Madsen climbed aboard his machine focused on moving forward, and getting into a transfer spot, but a tough track to pass on, mixed with a star studded field made things very tough.

Doing all he could to get forward, Madsen’s 2014 Knoxville Nationals came to a close as he finished 8th aboard his Greenland Homes/QTC/Rider Racing Engines backed entry after battling Jeff Swindell and Jason Johnson late in the 22-lap event.

“I just want to thank everyone who supports this team,” Madsen said. “It wasn’t the result we were hoping for, but it was a ton of fun with the throwback scheme, and having so many of our partners in attendance. We had a good week, and took the Knoxville point lead by winning on Sunday, so hopefully we can redeem ourselves in two weeks and win a track title.”

Ian and his KCP acing team would like to thank Nehring Construction, Team Kline Electric, Logan Contractors Supply, Royal Flooring, Greenland Homes of Iowa, Quality Traffic Control, Factory Kahne, Rider Racing Engines, JRS Excavating, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Kent Performance, The Stone Shop, Aspen Air Inc.
