ONE ON ONE WITH HAYDEN PITT
Author : SCW

How did you first get involved in motor sport?

My parents raced go karts so that’s where it all started. Then I started racing go karts at 7 and stepped up to sprintcars once Dad stepped aside.

What has been your greatest achievement in Sprintcar racing?

Probably winning back to back 410 feature races in the 2012/2013 season and being the youngest 410 feature race winner that season.

How do you rate the local racing in your state compared to the other states?

I rate our local racing very highly. We have a good number of races within a close distance and we have some of the best drivers in the country. When world series comes around, our locals normally run up front so when you’re doing well locally, you know you can perform on the national stage.

Do you believe that Sprintcar racing gets the exposure in the media it truly deserves?

I believe it does. I personally think sprintcar racing is in a good place at the minute and with too much exposure, we could lose what speedway racing is all about.

Tell us in your own words how last season went from your point of view.

I felt I had a pretty consistent year and continued to improve every week. Timed in the top 10 at nearly every world series round and the big local shows that we run which was a big improvement from previous seasons.

What is your favourite track and why?

Favourite track is probably Speedway City as we are pretty consistent around there and can run up front on a good night.
Murray Bridge is also a fun little track when things are going well.

Who is your most admired competitor and why?

Max Dumesny. He has always been my favourite driver from when I used to sit on the hill as a kid and still love watching and racing with him to this day.

Outside of Speedway what do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

Love getting out in the boat and going fishing and also don’t mind playing a bit of lawn bowls.

Growing up who was your childhood hero?

Max Dumesny

Tell us about how you chose your racing number.

Dad has always been 87 throughout his racing career so I’ve just continued on with that.

I know it is early but do you have any plans set for next season?

Probably just stick to our local shows again this season.
