Reidy Picks Up The Pace

In what was his first off road event since the Finke Desert Race in the Northern Territory last June, Danny Reidy, alongside co-driver Ben Finemore, came away with a pleasing result in last weekend’s Dondingalong Off Road Challenge, near Kempsey in the Mid North Coast of NSW.

After a solid fifth place outright in last year’s event, Reidy managed to improve on that by finishing third outright and also winning his class, Extreme 2WD, for the second year in a row aboard the Desert Palms Resort – Alice Springs supported Dodge 2000 Chev 5700cc.

Reidy said that had it not been for a tough run in his second heat, then he quite possibly could’ve had a better chance to contend for the outright win.

“Due to posting a good time in our opening heat (made up of four laps of the 2.2 km short circuit), we had to start from the back of the field in our next heat, so we had to battle our way through the dust,” he explained. “In that heat, you couldn’t see 50 metres in front of you due to the heavy dust and that hurt our time, as we went from fourth fastest outright to 12th.”

Despite his second heat difficulties, Reidy recovered in the remaining three heats and finished the weekend third outright.

“It was a very pleasing weekend and a great way to bounce back from our disappointing run at the Finke,” he enthused. “Due to having a good run last year, I was keen to return and wanted to build on that result. Leading into the weekend, I worked hard on sorting out the car in order to find some consistency. It was pleasing to be rewarded for all of that hard work with a result.”

Reidy is set to return to the speedway tracks aboard his NT # 5 Desert Palms Resort – Alice Springs supported J&J sprintcar in a fortnight’s time. His 2012-13 season debut is scheduled for Saturday night, September 29 at Brisbane’s Archerfield Speedway in Queensland with the opening round of the KRE Series.

Reidy would like to thank Desert Palms Resort - Alice Springs, Camden Neon Signs, P&M Motor Body Repairs, Gonzo’s Race Pipes and Inglis Race Engines for all of their support.
