The thirteenth edition of the AHG Sprintcar Series will be held over thirteen rounds this summer racing season - but that is not the only difference to the premier west coast Sprintcar competition.
The point score has been modified from previous years and the top drivers will contest a NASCAR style "Chase" scenario over the final four rounds to decide the series champion.
It all adds up to an exciting and shortened title tilt that should appeal to drivers and fans alike.
In previous AHG Sprintcar Series competitions more than 20 rounds has been the norm with only a handful of competitors able to contest all of the meetings.
So the organising body - the Sprintcar Entrants Group - has jazzed up the proceedings by eliminating all of the World Series Sprintcars rounds and the two nights of the Krikke Boys Shootout at Bunbury.
The 13 nights of intense competition for the coveted AHG Sprintcar Series crown will see 11 nights of racing at the Perth Motorplex plus one meeting each at the Collie and Bunbury venues.
The heat race results will not see points allocated to the series tally as has been the case in the past so the A Main results become very important to the competitors.
After round #9 at Perth Motorplex on January 27 the current top ten pointscorers go straight into the "Chase"
These drivers will be joined by the "Lucky Dog" - a driver outside the top 10 (and an SEG member) who will be chosen by a fan vote via the SEG web site (www.seg.net.au) and
Facebook page.
The 11 drivers in the "Chase" will be even on points going into the final four rounds - with the winner of each of the first nine rounds getting an additional bonus point for their victory.
THEN the "CHASE" will be on!!
The remaining drivers will vie for position 12 and back for the season.
It will certainly be different - interesting - and exciting for all concerned!!
