Tatterson To America Again!
Author : Dean Thompson

West Australian mining worker Steve Tatterson is about to head back to California, USA where last season he had his Sprintcar racing debut and where again this year he heads to team up with friend, crew chief and mentor Rod Fauver, who is well known in West Australian Sprintcar circles.

After his time in California last season it was hoped that upon returning from USA that Tatterson would have had his Sprintcar equipment in WA and competing in the season just gone, however things didn’t go according to plan and Tatterson continued to work the long hours that are available in the mining industry to put himself in a position to make a assault on Sprintcar racing for the 12/13 season.

Plans have changed a little from the intention to bring the gear home and run in the WA season and Tatterson is excited about what lays ahead.

“Well last year I had hoped to bring the equipment I purchased home and run here in WA and a couple trips east to where my family lives. Instead what I am going to do is go over now and run in California, come back here and race and work around Perth until around February 2013 and then head back over to California, at this stage with all on my own funding and give a full time crack at racing around the USA.”

For now Tatterson heads to USA on July 30 and will be based around Northern California racing against drivers such as Jonathon Allard, Stephen Allard, Andy Forsburg, Pete Murphy, Shaun Becker, Andy Gregg, Rico Aberu to name a few.

Racing will be at venues such as Marysville, Calistoga, Skagit, Antioch, Placerville, Petaluma and maybe Cottage Grove on this journey.

For this trip Tatterson intends to run in the Civil War Series, King of the West, World of Outlaws including the Gold Cup as he did last season, Marysville Open and the Fall Nationals where Tatterson has all his own race equipment sitting at Fauvers ready to go.

Last season Tatterson ran a limited one month season however this year will be there for two and a half months getting much more experience. Upon his return to WA for October through to the end of January Tatterson is hopeful of having proved himself in California to negotiate a deal to drive so he can continue seat time right up to his return to USA in February 2013.

With the last four months spent on a serious fitness campaign to give him the stamina he needs to run at a serious level Tatterson believes consistent strong performances will follow. The aims are to improve qualifying results and bank consistent top ten feature results and some strong top five finish results amongst those. Add to that a dream to make a World of Outlaws feature field which Tatterson himself considers a long shot at the moment but a focus he has to give him something big to chase.

“I would be absolutely stoked to qualify into a World of Outlaws feature field. It would really mean to me that I have made it as a Sprintcar racer of some ability. Rod and his family have given me the support I need at this time to purchase all the gear and with their guidance it is the right gear. I just can’t wait to get back there and have a crack.”

In 2011 it is fair to say Tatterson progressed quicker than he thought he would and the aim is to improve on those results and tick off the boxes of achieving little goals along the way leading up towards finishing in top five positions.

People Tatterson would like to thank right now are Fauver for all the time and effort he has put into teaching him and putting a car together that is strong. Jimmy Sills who has continued to guide Tatterson ever since Tatterson went to the Jimmy Sills race school, Kiewit Australia his employer for getting behind him and allowing him to achieve his dreams by going to the USA for such a length of time. Kevin Sharrah Signs, Rod Fauver Engines and Race Ready Rentals for their support over in the states.

Any Australian supporters that would like to get onboard and maybe have Tatterson promote your products and gear over in Northern California would be encouraged to contact Tatterson via email at [email protected]
