Gessner Signs For Cowara Team
Author : Ken Brown

Leading Queensland Sprintcar driver Cameron Gessner will drive for the Steve and Kareena Duggan Cowara Motorsport team this coming racing season.

Gessner, who now lives and works in WA, is looking forward to the challenge.

“I came over here to work,” he said, “But I love driving Sprintcars so to be asked to drive for Steve is a real bonus.

“It is a bit daunting, to be honest, as I will be with a brand new team.

“It will be something different for me as I was with the same team in Queensland for the past five seasons and we were pretty successful.

“But Steve wants his team to be right up there, and so do I.

“Hopefully everything will come together and we will have a very good season.”

Gessner, 31, considers his favourite tracks to be the Perth Motorplex and Premier Speedway, Warrnambool.

“We have done pretty well at Kwinana every time we have come over to race there,” added Gessner.

“We set fast time there in the 2011 World Series Sprintcars Grand Final and won the preliminary A Main last season.”

Gessner also finished a creditable third in the WA Championship at the Perth Motorplex in March.

Then he ventured back to Brisbane to win the Queensland Championship and also the Tri-City Shootout Series over the Easter long weekend.

Gessner has finished third in the Australian Sprintcar Championship on two separate occasions and was fourth in World Series Sprintcars during the 2000-01 season.

“I am excited about the coming season,” said Cowara Motorsport owner Steve Duggan.

“We have had three good seasons with Ken Sartori behind the wheel of our #41 car,” said Duggan. “However Ken is now working up north and will not be available to drive for us on a regular basis.

“I have talked to Ken and he is right behind our move to get Cam driving for us this summer.

“We will also have another car for Ken to drive in selected events.

“Cameron and Ken are actually good mates from when Ken raced in World Series, and both are very hands-on drivers, so we should be able to bounce a lot of ideas off each other.”

Duggan has ordered two brand new cars – a Maxim and a Cool – for the upcoming season and his team will once again be powered by Maxwill Engines.

The Cowara Motorsport team intends to contest all of the local AHG Sprintcar Series rounds and will travel over to Brisbane for the 2012-13 Australian Sprintcar Championship next January.

“Brisbane is Cameron’s home track and he always goes well there,” said Duggan.

The team is hard at work over the winter months to get everything ready for the new season, which kicks off at the Perth Motorplex on October 20.

The Cowara Motorsport Team wishes to acknowledge the support of their loyal sponsors who enable us to keep on racing.
