Van Ginneken’s Dream Debut
Author : Redline Media
The debut of Tim Van Ginneken with the SJ Crushing Racing team couldn’t have went better, following the pairing’s victory in last Saturday night’s Western Australian 410 Sprintcars Title at the Perth Motorplex in Western Australia.
Jumping behind the wheel of the WA # 56 SJ Crushing backed J&J that is owned by Steve and Janette Crabbe, Van Ginneken took to it like a duck to water by qualifying third for the Western Australian Title deciding feature race by virtue of the second fastest lap in time trials and then running second in his heat race. In the feature race, Van Ginneken hit the lead early on.
From there, he was able to stay ahead of his rivals and went on to take out what was a massive up-set win.For Van Ginneken, who had only previously raced at the Perth Motorplex 15 years ago in a Junior Sedans, he became the first Victorian-based driver to win the Western Australian Title and only the fourth interstate driver to come away with the event’s top honours.
“It was just a night where everything came together, and it’s something I won’t be forgetting in a hurry,” expressed Van Ginneken, who had only got to know Steve and the team earlier in the season, when they were over for the Grand Annual Classic and Australian Title at Van Ginneken’s home track: Warrnambool’s Premier Speedway.
“I can’t thank Steve and Janette and the entire SJ Crushing Racing team enough for this opportunity, and to be able to reward them with the Western Australian Title win is an amazing feeling for everyone involved.”
Heading into the debut race meeting with the SJ Crushing Racing team, Van Ginneken held hopes of a good result, but coming away with the Western Australian Title spoils was somewhat of a pipe dream.
“I know that Steve has first-class equipment, so it was going to be up to me to jell with the team and then take it all from there,” he explained.
“When I had qualified on the second row for the feature race, I had to readjust my goals towards contending for a podium spot, but once I got out in front, I was determined to stay there, which was what I did, and I couldn’t be happier.”
Van Ginneken is set to return to the Perth Motorplex for the annual Silver Cup with the SJ Crushing Racing team on the Saturday night of April 23.
Van Ginneken and the SJ Crushing Racing team would like to thank their 2015-16 season sponsors: SJ Crushing, Lowes Auto Repairs, South West Conveyancing, Lubrimaxx, and Mandurah Bolt Supplies. Special thanks: Steve, Janette, Army, Rob, Gavin and Trevor.
