Winning a state championship is a big accomplishment but to claim two back to back takes it to the next level, leaving a mark of excellence in the record books and that is exactly what McLaren Vale’s Scott Bogucki did last Saturday night at Adelaide’s Speedway City.
A tough field of 25 competitors, coming from Western Australia, Victoria and the local South Aussies, including the Australian Champion had all assembled in the pits at Speedway City and with so many quality competitors the Universal Metal Cleaners South Australian Wingless Sprint promised to be a thrilling event and by the fall of the chequered flag it had lived up to its promise as the racing provided everything a Speedway fan could ask for with close wheel to wheel racing, spectacular crashes and plenty of passing opportunities on a well prepared racing surface that provided multiple lane racing all night long.
Scott’s title defence got off to a solid start in the heat races to claim a creditable second from position 11 start in his opening heat, followed by a stout victory in round two. These results netted the SA84 machine front row start for the all important 25 lap main event and from the drop of the green flag Scott was able to lead each and every lap. Scott’s dominating run was hampered by several race caution periods which would bring the field back together for the restart but with a clear track ahead Scott took full advantage and was never headed as he drove to victory lane! Following Scott to the finish was Daniel Obst and rounding out the podium was Steven Trigg from Victoria.
A very humbled Champion graciously accepted his trophy on the Speedway City dais and was quick to thank the other competitors and host venue for providing a great race and track. Scott then went on to say. ‘I would like to thank my family, Uncle Paul, Jack McCarthty and all the team for their support and hard work and also, most importantly, my sponsors (where he named them one by one.) Without their unwavering support from the moment they have come on board. I just would not be able to do this without them and I can't thank them enough,’ said Scott over the tracks PA system.
