Wingless Sprints Australia (wsa)
Author : WSA
Wingless Sprints Australia was launched by Dale Matthews some time in 2007 and is a V8 Wingless Sprintcar category.
I have assumed the management rights to the category and thought it appropriate to bring interested parties up to date with what has been happening.
Basically bugger all! – So why you ask?
Jeff Drew from Avalon Raceway is a keen supporter of a V8 Wingless category so I have been trying to do the ‘right’ thing and get the support of the SCCA and NASR to run some ‘DEMONSTRATION’ meetings to gauge competitor interest at Avalon Raceway.
Initially Dale had similar arrangements in place with the SCCA and NASR however the original documentation that he had from the aforementioned authorities were unfortunately lost in a house fire and apparently neither the SCCA nor NASR have copies.
I wrote to both the SCCA and NASR in February of this year with further written correspondence in March and April seeking support and have also made several phone calls. I have been told that ‘the matter is being ‘looked into’ however the silence has been deafening regarding an official response.
Obviously the matter is being (or has been?) addressed by the SCCA because Ross Allen from the SCCA states so in issue 410 of Speedway Racing News!
But I have heard absolutely nothing!
Is this professional? – I don’t think so!
So where to now?
As stated, my preferred option is to run DEMONSTRATION meetings next year with the full support of the SCCA and NASR purely to gauge competitor interest. The only stipulation is that the cars need to be SCCA registered, drivers must have an SCCA/NASR licence and 410 cubic inch engines are NOT allowed (apart from the original Dale Matthews ‘crate motor’
BUT, if the SCCA and NASR continue to ignore WSA then plan B will be come into action which involves a non NASR track.
If you are interested in running some DEMONSTRATION events this coming season please email me robjharris@bigpond.com or phone 0418 977783 (after 5.00pm)
...and if the SCCA and or NASR would like to give me an official stance that would be good.
